COVID-19 has had an unprecedented impact on the American economy and the construction industry. Some of the ripple effects have been observable and measurable, such as stay-at-home orders, project slowdowns or delays, layoffs, and phased plans to bring workers back to projects. Some of the ripple effects have been hidden and are expressed in silence. The stress has exacerbated existing mental health conditions, especially anxiety, panic, depression and substance use disorders. Our own Cal Beyer, CSDZ VP Workforce Risk and Worker Wellbeing, along with Sheldon Beddo of AT-RISK International, recently co-authored an article about this in Construction Business Owner called “How to Prevent Workplace Violence During & After COVID-19.”
